A review of registrars and helping you to find the best one where you can host your website.
Once your website's layout is ready and all of your content has been written, you need to register a domain name with a registrar.
A lot of people, mostly those who don't know much about the internet, tend to register one with their local internet provider who has prices that are over exaggerated seriously. I really find it outrageous when people pay 20$ or 30$ for one Domain Name, when they can get one for less than 10$!
There are many Domain Name registrars who offer you great service at a great price. However, the one I'm going to talk about is known as the world's #1 Domain Name registrar and for a good reason. There's also another very popular and cheap registrar, but I'll talk about that later on.
As of July 2006, a .com Domain Name at GoDaddy would have cost you only 8.95$ USD. It is actually very rare to register a Domain Name at this price.
On the other hand, let's analyse exactly what they offer you if you also choose to go with their Web Hosting package plan. Always, as of July 2006, an economy plan would have cost you just 3.99$ USD per month for these features: 5 GB space, 250 GB transfer, 500 email accounts, 10 MySQL databases, 50 email forwards, forums, blogging, photo galleries, and with no ads. Yes all of this for only 3.99$ per month.
And you can only imagine that the bigger Hosting packages at GoDaddy are even more impressive. But between you and me, I think we can agree that 3.99$ per month for 5GB Space and a massive 250GB data transfer, can't get any better, and for most of us, it's more than enough.
Now let's just take another well, more and less expensive registrar, for example one of the most popular registrars, Register.com. To register a Domain Name with this company it will cost you 35$ for one year and 14.95$ per month for a Web Host that consists of 750MB Web space and a 24GB data limit. That's a huge and major difference to GoDaddy's offer. However, if you have no problem with these prices, I would still recommend you to go with Register.com, they're really a good registrar.
And of course, there's also the major Network Solutions who is very well known among big companies.
But let me be honest with you. Why do you think some people decide to choose Register.com or Network Solutions, instead of GoDaddy (aside because of its funny name)? Well, that's a simple question to answer. Many people and big companies just don't trust that GoDaddy will provide them a good service, they know that Register.com and Network Solutions have expensive packages, but given the fact that they have a good reputation, they choose to go with them - not that GoDaddy doesn't a good one!
Godaddy has become more popular among the "normal" people like us, who simply want to open a little serious website. In fact, if you look around, there so many websites that are hosted by Godaddy. Even your favourite fansite is probably hosted by them. It's simply an ever expanding company who can offer quality service with a great low price.
Today, GoDaddy is possibly the largest registrar that has surpassed Network Solutions in total domain names registered, as Wikipedia mentions on their website. They have also won many awards over the years.
Seriously, I know that their website has a very complicated and yes, ugly look, but they sure have the lowest prices.
So here's come the important question... What methods of payment are allowed with GoDaddy? Or maybe you're asking, why I think this is an important question? Well, because the fact is that many of you are probably high school or college students who possibly want to make money online with a website and chances are that you still don't have a credit card or don't always work.
At GoDaddy, unlike most companies, they very well understand and in fact, they made a whole page dedicated on "how to pay". There are 4 possible ways:
· Well, of course, you can pay with your credit card if you have one.
· If you have a verified Pay Pal account, you can pay them by Pay Pal.
But the catch is, you need to have a credit card in order to have a verified Pay Pal account!
· You can also choose to pay with GoodAsGold.
· Or simply by US Check (international non-US checks are not allowed, unfortunately).
Yes, they know that not everyone has a credit card. They even say "We understand that there are plenty of good people who don't use credit cards for one reason or another. It you're one of them, you're welcome here". Now that's something you don't always hear from an internet company!
You can try to search for better ones, but you'll probably end up disappointed like me. If you need to register a Domain Name and get a Web Host, I highly and strongly suggest you to go with GoDaddy.
To find out more information or to buy one of their packages, visit their website, GoDaddy.
There is another excellent registrar that is also very popular among professional website experts.
If the Hosting packages hadn't come with a 30$ setup fee, I would have right now recommended you this one as your first choose. However, I don't necessarily think that paying 30$ for a setup fee is much of a big deal, so I feel like I should still mention it.
PowWeb has been around for a while and continues to impress a lot of webmasters, because of its inexpensive price and quality service, like GoDaddy.
For 7.77$ per month, you get 20 000MB Web storage, 400GB data transfer, host unlimited Domains, a free domain name and much more. That's quite something!
Along GoDaddy, PowWeb has always been classified as the best registrar. It's very similar to GoDaddy.
As I said, if you want to go with PowWeb, you will have to pay a single fee of 30$ for the setup and must agree to be their host for 3 months. So in total, to open an account, you need to pay 53.31$ (that comes with a free Domain Name) and after 3 months, you can continue to pay 7.77$ monthly.
That's the nagging part of PowWeb in the beginning because I know a lot of you don't really have a job or have a pretty tight budget, but it's definitely an offer to consider.
· Credit Card
· Money Order
· Personal Check
· Western Union
· Certified Check
· Pay Pal
· And possibly by other methods too
You should go to PowWeb for more details or in case you're interested to buy their offer.
