Free Web Hosts

I know many of you want to host your future website on a free Web host. Some of you would like to open a website for the fun of it, and others want to build a serious website in order to create a second source of income without investing. It's a perfectly understandable desire, but if you plan to choose a free Web host, prepare yourself for the worse.

I really hate writing and recommending you to go ahead with a free Web Host because it's simply not a good decision at all. You can never get a quality service from a free Web host and I'm sure you already know that.

You might as well be aware that many webmaster have seen their website shut down and vanished when the free Web host went out of business. These types of scenarios happen all the time with free Web Hosts and it's perfectly normal.

However, the truth is that there no such thing as "free". If you're getting something for free, there's also a catch that comes along. Same thing for free Web hosts. Do you really think you're going to get a quality service from a free Web Host, even if there's a catch? No, you won't!

In fact, many of the free Web Hosts out there either has limited features, force you to upgrade your membership to a paying one or put their annoying ads on your website. But it doesn't stop there. I would recommend such services to you and yes they still exist.

Yes, you can't deny it, hosting a website on a free Web host is a horrible decision to take. One way or the other, there's always a catch associated with it, so you must make a wise decision. I would strongly recommend you to pay, instead of falling into the "free" trap.

Nowadays, it really doesn't cost a lot to pay for a domain name or a Web host. Don't risk losing your website with a free service if you forget to constantly back up your files! The cheapest and the best registrar are GoDaddy and PowWeb as I mention used in the Registrars page.

I've made a whole page for you to compare and choose the best registrar that meets your demands.

However, only if you insist for a free Web host, I personally know only one that is worth to mention. But I warn you, you're not going to get the same quality service as you would get with a professional and paying registrar. So you have been warned!

Alright, instead of only talking about how good the free Web host is, I will also highlight you the bad aspects of this free service, which is something very important to know.

AtSpace

This is probably the only and the best free Web host around. Yes, indeed they do provide you a free Web space for your registered domain name. That means you can host your website with them if you have a registered domain name.

However, they do not give you a free domain name. That would obviously cost them a lot of money. But how can they provide you a free Web host? I'll let you know later on.

AtSpace is also at the same time a free Web host like Geocities or Angelfire, except they allow you to host your website under your own domain name as well. If you don't have a registered domain name, you can get a yourname.atspace.com, but don't do go with that. We're here to build a serious website…

Positive Aspects of AtSpace

Amazingly enough, if you register with AtSpace, you get unlimited bandwidth data transfer! And that's a pretty good surprise. Visitors can come visit your website and download as much as they want.

You can also host as many as websites you want, there's no limit.

It's also a free service that keeps its promises. For years, AtSpace has assured their members that they will never force them to upgrade or to make them pay for the service they get. So you can be assured that in the future, you won't get any bad surprises.

However, instead of going on like this, let me simply list you the good aspects that are posted on the front page of their website:

· 50 MB Free Web Hosting
· Free UNLIMITED Traffic
· Free Domain Hosting
· Free Subdomain Hosting
· Free DNS Server
· Free FTP Hosting Account
· Free POP3 Email Account
· Instant Account SetUp
· Web Based File Manager
· Easy to use Control Panel
· Reliable RAID Backups
· Stable Hosting Platform (not really for some users)
· Super Fast Servers (not really for some users)
· Reliable Data Center
· Ultra Fast Network (not really for some users)
· 99.8% Uptime Guarantee (not really for some users)
· 24x7 Network Monitoring
· Host Unlimited Web Sites
· NO BANNER ADS

And no they aren't lying. You really do get all of them.

Bad Aspects of AtSpace

Yes, indeed there are a couple of them as I said above.

Well, for a start, there's no technical support. If you need help with something or have a question, you need to ask it on their forum. But this isn't much of a big deal, because the forum is quite helpful.

Unfortunately, you can't host any FrontPage Extensions files at AtSpace. Neither do they support PHP, Perl (CGI directory), ASP, JSP, MySQL, Access databases. These are very support feature for webmaster, but you don't get them there. They say that in the future they will support them, but they haven't upgrade yet and it's taking forever.

Another problem at AtSpace is that for some users, the loading of the Web pages are sometimes slow. Yes, the server can be slow at times.

Sometimes, when you try to access a website, it displays "The page cannot be displayed", which is quite problematic. But as I said, this doesn't happen to every user for some reason.

You probably saw it coming... An unlimited bandwidth comes with a limited file size of 200k. They impose this mostly because they don't want people to upload MP3 files, etc. But once again, there's no surprises here and it's a perfectly normal thing to impose.

Those are the biggest problems at AtSpace and this is why, even if it's the best free Web host out there, I don't recommend you go with them. It's just not suitable for serious website. Also keep in mind; you'll have to pay and buy a domain name if you want a yourname.com, of course.

How Can AtSpace Afford All of This?

Some people wonder how AtSpace can actually provide you unlimited bandwidth and all those features. They can, because they make money with the Google Adsense ads they have on their website. And also remember that they force you to ask your questions on the forum, which create for Web pages with Google Adsense ads for them.

Once again, it is best for you to go with a paying registrar such as GoDaddy and PowWeb if you want to host a website on a stable server and leave the free Web hosts for newbies!

If you would like to try click on AtSpace.
